Odisha woman sprinter Srabani Nanda won one bronze medal in the third and final leg of the Asian Grand Prix Series at Chanthaburi (Thailand) today. She was a member of the Indian team that finished third in women`s 4x100m relay with a timing of 45.42 seconds.
But Srabani finished in fourth place after clocking 11.73s in the 100m race. Overall, East Coast Railway athlete Srabani ended the Asian GP Series with a total of four bronze medals. She had secured one bronze in the first leg at Bangkok and two more in the second leg at Pathum Thani.
Amiya Kumar Mallick, the other Odisha athlete in the Indian squad and a member of the men`s 4x100m relay team, finished fourth in the final leg. He had pocketed one relay bronze in the second leg.
India put up its best performance for the last leg as they collected eight medals, which included three gold, four silver and one bronze. India’s 800m specialist Jinson Johnson and shot put Asian champion Inderjeet Singh completed a golden hat-trick each.
The quarter-milers, Asian Games bronze medalist Arokia Rajiv and Asian Games gold medallist in the 4x400m women’s relay and silver medallist in the Asian Championships, MR Poovamma, bagged a silver each.
Gayathri Govindraj improved her overall standing in the GP Series with a silver in the women’s 100m hurdles. Long jumper Ankit Sharma also completed a hat-trick of silver medals with a best effort of 7.87m in the third leg.
